About Sue |
|
Sue Wallis was born in Gillette, and raised on the Wallis Ranch north of Recluse. Sue and her husband, Rod McQueary, ranch with her parents, Dick & Myrt Wallis, and her brother, Frank Wallis. Rod and Sue have seven children, and one grandson.
Ranching – Sue and Rod raise grassfat natural beef on the family ranch on Bitter Creek in northern Campbell County. They have also developed a silversmithing, and blacksmithing business, and are working implementing a rural marketing network enterprise. We use innovative ways to make a living on a small, family operation...and have done so by leveraging state-of-the-art technology in combination with ancient craftsmanship and skills. Mining – Sue was employed by Rio Tinto Energy America (formerly Kennecott Energy) as the Aligning Business Systems Team Lead for Health, Safety, & Environment. My job involved integrating business systems across the entire company to create value, make wise use of resources, and provide efficiencies…I believe the same principles can, and should, be applied to state government. Oil & Gas – Sue has worked in the oil and methane fields, and her husband, Rod McQueary, was also employed in the industry. I have seen both sides of the fence, as a worker in the industry, as someone who still receives a good deal of our family support from oil & gas, and as a landowner and royalty holder Emergency Response – Sue is a certified EMT-Basic who has served with CCMH EMS, is an American Heart Association instructor for First Aid, CPR and AED. Sue has been a Mine Emergency Response Team member, and is a Wyoming Certified Firefighter II. State Government – Sue was elected to the legislature in November, 2006. She was appointed to the Wyoming State Board of Mines by Gov. Ed Herschler, and served on the Wyoming Mining Council by appointment of Gov. Freudenthal until being elected to the legislature. Art & Culture – Sue is a poet and author who has been widely published. She worked for the Western Folklife Center in Elko, Nevada where she managed the Cowboy Poetry Gathering. Sue serves as a Board Member on the Wyoming Humanities Council. Recluse Community Trust – Sue has been the driving force behind a $450,000 project to renovate and preserve the historic Recluse Community Hall, and currently serves as the Executive Director of the 501(c)3 nonprofit established to build an addition including a public library, restrooms, and water in the kitchen. The success of the Hall renovation, and future programming of the Trust will ensure that generations to come will be able to enjoy the only community gathering place in northern Campbell County. Recluse Lifeflight – Founder and director AVA Art & Leadership School for Girls – Creative Writing Instructor Prairie Wind Cultural Festival – Collaboration between CCHS International Club and the Prairiewind Unitarian Fellowship
